Sometimes You Just Need 'Diner Luke'

I get teased a lot by Surfer Boy for refusing to break my morning cafe routine no matter what.  This week was particularly bad as both kids were sick on different days and instead of waiting at home with them I made them come to breakfast with me while they were waiting for him to pick them up!  (they weren't THAT sick!)

Sometimes you just get really attached to the routines you love and as usual the amazing Lorelai Gilmore puts it perfectly....

On The Road Discussion

This conversation perfectly illustrates what made Gilmore Girls so brilliant.

Paris: A tragic waste of paper.

Jess: I can’t believe you just said that.

Paris: Well it’s true. The Beats’ writing was completely self-indulgent. I have 1 word for Jack Kerouac: Edit.

Jess: It was not self-indulgent, The Beats believed in shocking people, stirring things up.

Paris: They believed in drugs, booze, and petty crime.

Rory: Well, then you could say that they exposed you to a world that you wouldn’t have otherwise known. Isn’t that what great writing is all about?

Paris: That was not great writing. It was the National Enquirer of the 50’s.

Jess: You’re cracked.

Paris: Typical guy response. Worship Kerouac and Bukowski, god forbid you pick up anything by Jane Austen.

Jess: Hey, I’ve read Jane Austen

Paris: You have?

Jess: Yeah, and I think she would have liked Bukowski

My Favourite House

This is my all time favourite home - it can be found in Stars Hollow Connecticut and is the home of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore.
(Yes, I know they're not real but humour me)
I love everything about this house - the verandah, the wisteria, the white trim, the trees and of course the lives that went on behind those double front doors.

Recently I came across a photo of Lorelai's home as it is now - a few years after the final season of Gilmore Girls - and I can't say I am happy about the changes.  I'm happy the house still stands but I think they have stripped it of much of it's charm.  I wonder what TV family will live here next?

Lorelai & Keith = Heaven

Somewhere out there is a person who is just like me! I just found a YouTube clip of the Gilmore Girls set to the music of Keith Urban!!!! Where is this person and why haven't we met? FABULOUS.

Rory's Reading List

One of the main reasons that Gilmore Girls became my 'favourite show of all time' was the fact that literature and the love of reading played such a big part in the show. As a teen I was always teased for having my nose in a book (thanks Alex) and it was great to see a character like Rory also get off on reading.

Last year I decided to follow Rory's reading list and read some of the books she had read that I hadn't already. I started with Kafka's Metamorphosis and Proust's Swann's Way. Heavy but satisfying.

It turns out that I am not the only one with this idea. There is a website dedicated to Rory's reading list and a fan has now started a Twitter which documents her journey through the list.

Next up for me is Melville's Moby Dick - Season 1, episode 1! Wish me luck.

Love a Good Quiz

Over at Stars Hollow K. posted this fantastic quiz. She was a 'Christopher' and look who I am - 'Luke'. I think the fact that I find a toolbelt very sexy might have been the clincher. Who is your perfect Gilmore Girls man?

More Joy From Amy

It will be absolutely no surprise to anyone who knows me that Gilmore Girls is my favourite show. Before you roll your eyes and click on to someone Else's blog, I'm not actually going to talk about G.G. This post is all about the creative genius that is Amy Sherman-Palladino.

Sherman-Palladino is best known as the creator and executive producer of Gilmore Girls She and her husband wore many hats as the creative forces of the show, writing many of the episodes and also acting as producers.

Mid 2006, it was announced that Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband Daniel could not come to an agreement with The C.W. to continue their contracts. As a result, the Palladinos' involvement with Gilmore Girls came to an end. And some say, so did the glory days of the show.

The reason for this post about Amy is not only because I think she is an amazing creative force, but I have just heard from the 'Font Of All Wisdom' - Whitney - that she has developed a new sitcom!! WoooHoooo!!!

The Return Of Jezebel James
is about two sisters who come together after years apart, when one of the sisters agrees to carry the other's baby. Amy will write, executive produce and direct the pilot. The series will debut on March 14, 2008 on FOX. Parker Posy is the star in the series, along with Lauren Ambrose from 6 Feet Under fame.

As you can imagine I am more than a little excited about the prospect of a new offering from the Sherman-Palladino family but I have an awful suspicion that it will be many years before we see it on Australian TV, if at all. Looks like it's time to upgrade the Internet connection and get set for lots of illegal downloading!

By the way do any Gilmore fans recognise an old friend in any of the photos??

You probably would not believe me if I told you that some people we have told about our evening looked at us like we had just arrived from a planet far, far away. Others openly scoffed and questioned their previous opinion of us. While some didn't say anything, their expression said it all.

I know! Weird!

What can possibly be strange about a girls night where the aim was to eat like we were 16 again, curl up on the couch for a good natter and watch 3 episodes in a row of our favourite show? Sounds like a bloody good night to me - in fact so much so that we're doing it again next week!

A Big Stars Hollow Thankyou

To those of you who rang me today and asked for Lorelai Gilmore I say a big thank you. It put a huge smile on my face!
And to Alison I say - check your kitchen...I'm sure that's Luke!!

I think I have just found a new (and very useful) skill. I think I can find a 'Gilmore Girls' link for nearly every aspect of my life.
Watch...

Umm... it was freezing today and I wore my blue puffy jacket to work (this is true)

In fact it was so cold it snowed in Yarraville and I stood outside the shop and watched the pretty flakes (this is not true)

Tomorrow I am going to play glof with my Dad (also not true)

See what I mean!
