Astounding curiosity over Vastushastra the art & science of constructing buildings for residential, industrial, commercial & various purposes surfaced in the recent past. Bruno Dagens a scholar from France, learnt sanskrit in the Pondicherry Ashram and translated the most prestigious ancient book on Vastushastra ” Mayamatam”, into French & English. It is very unfortunate that subject that was well rooted in Indian culture should arouse interest of the masses only after the translated versions came to light.
The “Vastu Shatasootri” clearly shows the solid base of Indian Vastushastra. The matured thoughts & foresight of the Indian Rishis have placed the Vastushastra to a height unreachable by any other Vastushastra.
Vastushastra has highly been influenced by Deva Nakshatras & Raakshasa Nakshatras. The concept of Vastu Purusha is supposed to occupy the space covered by the Nakshatras. The effect of North & East directions spreads from the North – west corner to the South – East corner. This concept needs to be taken into account while planning the structure of the house. The structure definitely has some untouched points that should remain untouched forever. The points can be compared with the acupressure points in the human body that the specialists use skillfully to maintain the perfect balance of the human body. The skilled architects also plan the structures keeping intact the harmony of the vulnerable points. This is very significant for keeping the building free from the defects. The house owners or those associated with the defective house have to face the consequences. It is also believed that they will experience disorders corresponding with the affected parts of the VastuShastra.
