Zac Me Up

I'm in need of a little Zac in my day today!

Aaaaah! That's better - Suddenly I have an extra spring in my step!

200th post FAIL!

I had every intention of putting up a wicked killah 200th post for you all, but here I sit with a fistful of boring blog ideas and one funny video I just came across on Fecesbook (thanks, Kerry!). Hello, Apathy. Come here often? Actually, yes.

I just couldn't think of a good theme for 200. I asked J and he pondered for about 5 seconds before scratching his chin thoughtfully and musing, "What would iCarly do?" Dink. Clearly, he was no help.

Anywhooooo, sorry it's not more thrilling, but I promise to come up with something fun for us to do on the big 1 year Blogaversary next month. Check out this story from The Onion news network. I am pretty sure I've attended this party. I think.

Hilar, am I right? I laughed.

In other news, I got an early b-day present yesterday! J got me a purple iPod Nano, which I love. It's adorable and practically indestructable, which are two things that electronics must be in order to survive in Bev's world. I am accident-prone. I break things. Maybe you've noticed this about me? No? Well, aren't you just the cutest?

Yes, you are. Have a good one!

Pretty fly... for a white chick

AKA: Tipsy blogging.

Yes, it's Saturday night, and I am where I almost always choose to be: curled up on the couch with my laptop and my (2nd) glass of Cab. The hubster is up caging the children for the night, I've got some silly pop culture VH1 show on the TV, and I am officially me-llelow like Jell-o. Today was a nice quiet day at home. We had big plans (weather permitting) to go to a water park today, but the little one woke up at 2 AM last night burning up with fever. I found myself on the couch at 2:15 with both kids drinking from their little Capri-Sun flavored water pouches, accepting the proffered Motrin droppers with such little fuss that it was clear they weren't feeling well.

So, we stayed home today. I love staying home; I am a home body by nature, after all. However by around 3 PM I start to get a little stir-crazy. I wish my attention span would make a come-back. I used to sit and read for hours and wish I had more time to do it, but lately I just can't seem to find a book that holds my attention. I have about 4 of them bookmarked, and I'll sit and read a chapter here and a chapter there, but never feel that pull to sit and finish it. The same goes for my writing; I feel no inspiration whatsoever. Hopefully my broke-down crack whore muse will return at some point so I can get the creative juices flowing again. Until then, I will just bore you all with my little bloggy thoughts. Like these:

Why does self-tanner have to smell like crap?
Let it be known that I am generally at peace with my paleness. I am simply not someone who gets bronzed in the summer, and I am beyond trying to fake it. I love to go sit in the sun to soak it in to raise my spirits, but always with sunblock and I can really only stand it for about 30 minutes before I start feeling hot and sweaty and need to seek shade. I don't turn "tan," I turn red and freckle-y, so what's the point?

BUT, I do like to wear skirts and shorts and I like bare legs, so that means I feel the need to keep the glare down to a minimum. We don't need people driving off the road because they are blinded by the brilliant flash of white that occurs when sunlight meets my bare legs, after all!

Every summer I try the various lotions that claim to have "subtle self-tanners" in them, and every year I find one that is... okay. Not fantastic, just okay. What irks me is the smell. Why is it that they can't seem to formulate a subtle self-tanner that doesn't smell like... I dunno, there's no comparison. It's such a distinct scent. Stale skin? A "used diaper filled with Indian food?"

Yeah, that's about right.

It's not a scent that I enjoy, that's for sure. Why must I be forced to make this choice? I can be ridiculously pasty OR smell like unfiltered desperation? *sigh* It is tough being a girl.

I yearn for the days when being pale was in.

That's all I got. Happy Saturday night, everyone!
oxoxoxo

Roller Girl

As you know I got roller skates for my birthday and have been for a couple of skates around the neighbourhood - in the process realising that I am not quite as good as I thought I was!!!
I found this today and it really put me to shame. It has made me realise though that all I may be missing is a boom box and some rock'n tunes.

Week in Review

What have we learned this week? Let's review.

1. The desire to have "Rock Star Hair" is contagious. Mala texted me this AM begging for direction in that department, which I felt wholly unqualified to offer her. I mean, I'm no hair genius, I just have a good hairdresser I've been stalking following for several years now as she searches out the perfect salon. Yes, for real. I have followed her to 4 different salons over the past 5 years. I am exceedingly loyal. Or, I fear change. Whatever, I'm going with loyal.

So, I told Mala to go all J-Lo up in here. For real - she can pull off the JLo 'do. She's got a tan, and the same thick hair that can be either straight or curly (bitch), and I just think she can totally work the caramel highlights.

Right? So, it may not be Rock Star hair, but it's certainly Pop Star/Diva hair. She's going in on Monday; and yes, I've already started pressuring her to post "after" pics on her blog.

2. Courtney, PorkStar, Samsmama, and Stacie are incorrigible. Somehow this week I managed to earn the nickname "Muffin Sweat." Don't ask me how. I can assure you that my muffin is most certainly NOT sweaty! In fact, that is one of the main reasons that I studiously avoid exercise; who wants a sweaty muff? Not I.

3. Samsmama's "tater" smells like "freshly-baked apricot muffins".

4. My hilarious Facebook comments are not everybody's cup o' tea. Thankfully, approx. 185 other people still enjoy them, so I have decided not to change a thing. Huzzah!

5. I did not need a crown to get my toof fixed. YAY! My dentist drilled it and filled it and now I can go back to pretending that the Friendly-Fire Tackle of '09 never happened.

6. Sleeping is awesome, and I am hooked. Now that I've had a taste of what being "well-rested" feels like, I want it all the time. I'm addicted.

7. Sunshine on my shoulders really does make me happy.

8. I talk on the phone a lot more than I thought I did. I just had to upgrade my cell plan AGAIN. Now, instead of splitting 700 minutes/month with my (also chatty) husband, we need to split 1400. Wow. When did THAT happen?

That's all I got. I was aiming for 10, but apparently I didn't learn 10 things this week after all.

Btw, this is my 198th post, and my 1 year Blogaversary is right around the corner. I am hoping to do something fun for the Big 200, unless I get lazy, which is always a distinct possibility. I'll keep you posted.

Thankful Thursday

I haven't done a TT for a while, so here goes.

I'm thankful for sleep, and for my husband, who allows me to get some sleep every now and then. Jim is a teacher, so he's off for the summer. He's also an early-riser, so he has been getting up with my youngest son at 5 AM for the past week. I cannot tell you how much better I feel when I can sleep until 7 AM. It's like night and day! The Bev is just not meant to get up at dawn. I prefer a solid 11 PM - 7 AM schedule. Sadly, during the school year, that schedule isn't possible, but do I go to bed earlier to make up for the early wake-up time? Hellz no, brutha. I just wear myself down to a nub.

Heh heh, nub is a funny word. AnyWHO!

I'm thankful for my easy job and for time off from said easy job. Wooohooo!

Work has been exceptionally dull this summer, and that's good because I've been sleep-walking through it. Phoning. It. In. The good news is that no one notices because I'm just that good. Heh. Even so, I had time off last week, and it was great, and next week I'm only working two days out of 5, plus I even have my birthday off & my Big Fun Extravaganza (BFE) w/ Mala next weekend, so I'm PUMPED. It would really be nice if we had some decent weather -- just throwin' that out there into the universe -- but I will take rain if that's what's in store, just as long as I don't have to go to work and deal with my idiot coworkers and asinine clients.

All of YOU. Yeah, you. My lovely readers. My hilarious commenters. A big welcome to the new folks! I like you already. :) Pull up a beanbag chair and take off your shoes. I will make us all some nachos and we can watch a silly movie and laugh our butts off! I'm glad you're here.

Speaking of silly movies, did you ever see Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story? I watched it a while back and was prepared to hate it, but I actually found myself laughing quite a bit. This one part in particular made my sides hurt. Jim and I had to skip back and watch it at least twice because we were laughing so hard, but maybe that's just because we're big Beatles fans? Oh, and we'd been drinking. I dunno. See what you think:

It's a riot, right? Paul Rudd as John Lennon = BRILLZ. Love it.

So, I'm thankful for that, too.

Hope you're all enjoying this lovely Thursday. I have only 6 short hours to kill at work today before I'm free, so... yay? Oh well, I'm not complaining. Today feels like a "long lunch" kind of day. In other words, it's a "trip to Target" kind of lunch break. HEE. And yes, I'm thankful for that, too.
